Karlos Manlupig
2015 Deeper Perspective Award
Karlos Manlupig is a 28-year-old correspondent for the Philippine Daily Inquirer, the largest newspaper in the Philippines, covering conflict, human rights issues, environmental concerns, disasters and politics. He contributed for the Associated Press and AFP with his photos published across the globe including the New York Times, TIME, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, The Guardian, Al Jazeera and other news outlets in the US, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Karlos was given a special award at the 2013 Indigenous Voices in Asia Awards in Bangkok for his article on the Manobo indigenous people affected by the conflict between the government and communists in Mindanao. He was also awarded special recognition at the 2013 Gawad Agong journalism awards in Manila. Advocating media safety, Karlos is the security officer of the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines in Davao City. He is presently taking MA in Applied Conflict Transformation Studies in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
